Secret RF vs CO₂ Fraxel: which resurfacing is right for you?

Both renew the skin and improve texture — but they do it differently. Here's an honest side-by-side of Secret RF and CO₂ Fraxel, and how to think about which suits you.

Secret RF vs CO₂ Fraxel: which resurfacing is right for you?
At a glance

Secret RF vs CO₂ Fraxel

How it works
Secret RFFine needles deliver radiofrequency into the dermis, prompting firmness and renewal with little surface disruption.
CO₂ FraxelA fractional laser resurfaces the surface and reaches into the dermis, treating microscopic columns to renew texture and tone.
Best suited to
Secret RFFirmness, early laxity, pores and general skin quality.
CO₂ FraxelTexture, sun damage and uneven tone, where surface resurfacing helps most.
Downtime
Secret RFMinimal — typically a day or two of redness for most.
CO₂ FraxelSome planned recovery — redness then a few days as the skin renews.
Sensation
Secret RFNumbing applied; a warm, prickling feeling.
CO₂ FraxelNumbing applied; a warm, sandpapery sensation.
Skin tones
Secret RFGenerally well suited across tones (RF heats deeper skin, not pigment).
CO₂ FraxelSuitable with careful, conservative, tone-appropriate settings; assessed first.
Typical course
Secret RFOften around three sessions, spaced weeks apart.
CO₂ FraxelA tailored course, with results building over the weeks after each visit.

Not a competition — they're often complementary. The right choice (or combination) depends on your skin, and is confirmed in a complimentary consultation.

Same goal, different tool

Both Secret RF and CO₂ Fraxel work by prompting the skin to renew itself — the difference is how they get there. Secret RF uses radiofrequency delivered through fine needles; CO₂ Fraxel uses fractional laser light. That difference is why one leans more toward firmness and the other more toward surface resurfacing.

Neither is simply ‘better’. The better question is which suits your skin, your concern and the downtime you can accommodate.

How to choose

As a broad rule of thumb: if firmness and skin quality with minimal downtime are the priority, Secret RF is often the starting point; if the concern is texture, sun damage and tone and you can plan a few days of recovery, CO₂ Fraxel may be the better fit.

Your skin tone matters too — both can be used across tones, but laser resurfacing is approached more conservatively in deeper skin. We assess all of this in person before recommending anything.

Can you do both?

Often, yes — many plans use them at different times to address different things, sequenced carefully over a course. The point of a consultation is to map that out honestly, rather than pushing a single device.

Good to know

Common questions

Which has more downtime, Secret RF or CO₂ Fraxel?

CO₂ Fraxel generally involves more recovery — redness and a few days of renewal — while Secret RF is usually a day or two of redness for most people.

Which is better for pigmentation vs firmness?

Broadly, CO₂ Fraxel leans toward surface concerns like texture and sun damage, while Secret RF leans toward firmness and skin quality. Most plans are matched to your specific mix.

Can I have both treatments?

Often yes — they can be sequenced over a course to address different concerns. We map a realistic plan in your consultation.

Are they safe for darker skin tones?

Both can be, with the right settings. Secret RF heats the deeper skin rather than targeting pigment; laser resurfacing is approached more conservatively in deeper tones. Your skin type is always assessed first.
