Understanding your skin.
No two complexions are the same. Knowing your skin type and tone is the starting point for any considered plan — and it's the first thing we assess together, in person, with no pressure.

The skin you're working with
Skin type describes how your skin behaves day to day — how much oil it produces, how it holds moisture, how reactive it is. Most people sit across more than one, and skin shifts with season, age and hormones.
Normal
Balanced and comfortable, with few concerns — the focus is maintenance and protection.
Dry
Produces less oil; can feel tight or look dull and benefits from barrier support and hydration.
Oily
More active oil glands and visible shine, often with enlarged-looking pores and a tendency to congestion.
Combination
Oilier through the t-zone, drier across the cheeks — the most common pattern, asking for a balanced approach.
Sensitive
Reacts easily — redness, warmth or stinging. Treatment is approached gently and built up carefully.
Mature
Naturally drier over time, with reduced firmness and texture change — well suited to a considered course.
Why your tone guides the plan
Dermatologists describe skin tone on the Fitzpatrick scale — six phototypes from very fair to deeply pigmented, based on how skin responds to the sun. It's more than cosmetic: tone influences how skin reacts to energy, light and resurfacing treatments, and it's why settings and approach are always tailored to you rather than applied from a template.
- IVery fair — burns easily, rarely tans
- IIFair — burns easily, tans minimally
- IIIMedium — sometimes burns, tans gradually
- IVOlive — burns minimally, tans easily
- VBrown — rarely burns, tans deeply
- VIDeeply pigmented — very rarely burns
Deeper phototypes carry more melanin, which calls for particular care with laser, light and peel treatments to keep them comfortable and even. Our team assesses your tone — and your history — before recommending anything, so your plan is safe and suited to you.
