Scarring

Scars from surgery, injury or the skin's own healing can be softened in their appearance — not erased, but gently improved over a considered course. Here's how it's approached.

What's happening

The why behind it

Scars form as part of natural healing, and no treatment makes them vanish entirely. What considered treatment can do is help improve their texture, tone and how noticeable they are — encouraging the skin to remodel more evenly over time.

The right approach depends on the scar: its age, depth, location and your skin type all matter. We assess this carefully in person and tailor a realistic plan — for raised, depressed or discoloured scars alike — always explaining honestly what's achievable. (For acne scarring specifically, see our dedicated guide.)

Scars are the skin's natural record of healing — and they come in several forms: flat and discoloured, raised (hypertrophic or keloid), or depressed. Each type, along with the scar's age and location, calls for a different approach, which is why assessment comes first.

Considered treatment encourages the skin to remodel more evenly, softening texture, easing redness or darkness, and making a scar less noticeable over a course. Newer scars are often guided as they mature; established scars can still be improved.

We tailor the method and intensity to your scar and skin type — taking particular care with raised scars and deeper tones, where the wrong approach can worsen things — and we're always honest about realistic improvement versus erasure.

At a glance

The kinds of scar

Scars heal in different ways — and each kind is approached differently, which is why assessment always comes first.

Flat & discoloured

Level with the skin but darker or redder — a question of tone more than texture.

Raised

Hypertrophic or keloid scars sit above the surface, and need a careful, conservative approach.

Depressed

Indented scars sit below the surface and respond to treatments that rebuild texture from within.

Frequently asked questions

Can scars be removed completely?

No treatment makes a scar vanish, but considered treatment can help improve its texture, tone and how noticeable it is over time, by encouraging the skin to remodel.

Which scars can be treated?

Surgical, injury and other scars can often be approached — the right method depends on the scar's age, depth and your skin type, all assessed in person.

When can a scar be treated?

Timing matters and varies by scar; some are best approached once fully healed and matured. We'll advise the right time in your consultation.

Will treatment completely remove my scar?

No treatment erases a scar entirely. The realistic, worthwhile goal is to soften its texture, tone and visibility so it blends more naturally with the surrounding skin.

Are raised and keloid scars treated the same as depressed ones?

No — raised, keloid and depressed scars each need a different approach, and some require particular caution. We assess your scar type carefully before recommending anything.

How many sessions will I need?

Scars respond to a course rather than a single treatment, with the number depending on the scar's type, age and depth. We'll give you a realistic plan at consultation.
